Fauna Conservation Suriname Protecting Nature Empowering Communities

Learn more about us

Fauna Conservation Suriname (FCS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017, driven by a passion for the protection and preservation of Suriname’s extraordinary natural heritage. Our work is deeply rooted in the belief that safeguarding biodiversity is essential for both the environment and for the well-being of current and future generations.

While our primary focus is on Suriname’s rich and diverse fauna, we take a holistic approach to conservation, recognizing the intricate connections between species, ecosystems, and local communities. Our activities range from conducting biodiversity inventories and providing expert advice, to developing management plans, educational materials and supporting community-led conservation initiatives.

Our team brings together a vibrant mix of young and senior professionals — uniting fresh perspectives with years of field experience. We are scientists, educators, conservationists, environmental managers, and advocates, each committed to making a lasting impact. Collaboration lies at the heart of everything we do: we work closely with local communities, governments, researchers, and other organizations to maximize our collective efforts.

Our Mission

To foster a deeper connection between people and nature through social-ecological system approaches, strengthening local communities and enhancing their role in conservation efforts. By empowering communities and considering the improvement of living standards, we create more opportunities for active engagement and build stronger support for sustainable conservation programs.

Our Vision

A world where people and nature thrive in harmony, achieving a sustainable social-ecological balance, while improving living standards.
